we're going to go to cairo for the latest update on that. let's begin with the first reads of the morning. we begin with the big news out of the labor department. the unemployment rate dropped to 8.3% after the economy added 243,000 new jobs in january. the gains were almost across the board, led by the business service sector, construction and manufacturing. it's the fifth straight month we receive the unemployment rate go down from more than 9% in september to more than 8.3% today. in the past few months the employers have added an average of 2,100 jobs every month. and as we saw this month, nc "wall street journal," polled those numbers, the american public is actually feeling the improvement. the right check number is the highest it's been since may before the debt ceiling debacle was up. americans h are more optimistic about the future. 30% of the people believe the economy will improve. only 17% think it will get worse. of course, we saw the president's approval rating on the economy tic up. these numbers just continue to move downward
